Mangoes belong to the genus Mangifera Indica. How apropos! Why? Because they're such a magnificent resource for skin and hair care!
The national fruit of India, Pakistan, and the Philippines, mangos originated in South Asia thousands of years ago. They gradually migrated to Southeastern Asian and East Africa by the 14th century.
Today, India and China are the largest producers; but mangoes are also flourishing in Spain, parts of Australia, South and Central America, and even North America by way of Florida and California.
Ayurvedic practitioners in India have extolled the mangos virtues for more than 3,000 years old. And devotees all over the world still use every part of the mango tree - the seeds, flowers, fruit, and even the bark.
Mango Seed
The moniker mango seed oil is a bit slippery or misleading. First of all, the seed is really a stone; and the oil is often referred to as mango butter. It also sports the slightly less palatable name mango kernel fat, because the oil is extracted from the kernel inside the stone.
Dark Skin
Whatever you call it, mango seed oil is a boon for skin and hair care. Rich in vitamins A and D, beta-carotene, phytochemicals, and antioxidant; it is effective in eliminating dark patches of skin, removing blackheads, and treating blemishes. It is tremendously beneficial in the healing of scars, stretch marks and rashes including dermatitis, eczema, and acne as well. It soothes inflamed, itchy, and peeling skin, and even relieves some insect bites.
Lines And Wrinkles
And with consistent use over five or six weeks, its anti-aging properties erase lines and wrinkles. In fact, some enthusiasts profess that the essential fatty acid in mango seed oil dresses their tresses, and leave their hair shimmering with health.
Hair
It can nourish your scalp and zap the most stubborn dandruff. It can even camouflage grey hair. Personally, I love my salt-and-pepper locks [yes, as in dreadlocks], but I love how luxurious mango seed oil can make your hair feel.
Massage
Massage your face to quench thirsty skin and seal in moisture. Rehydrate dry skin around your eyes and cheeks as well as chapped lips. It rejuvenates and promotes healthy skin cell growth. Its gentle enough to use on a babys skin, and yet strong enough to help prevent UV radiation damage or heal already sun-damaged skin.
