Tips To Heal And Soothe Skin

Skin is the most exposed organ in the human body, and it needs special care and attention to stay its healthiest. It becomes easily irritated and when it’s dry it can lead to several skin conditions or issues, some easily repaired and others not. There are a few options to try at home to heal and soothe your skin, and some preventative measures that can be taken, but if they fail it is important to consult a dermatologist to rule out more serious concerns or to receive prescriptions to correct the problem.

Light Moisturizer

Sometimes dry skin can lead to irritation, rash, bumps, redness, and discomfort. The first and easiest approach to deter this is to drink more water. Skin gets moisture the same way the rest of the body does, through the intake of hydrating fluids, and most importantly water. A light moisturizer applied after cleaning will also add moisture to the skin and help it stay healthy and hydrated.  This will help reduce irritation in skin but won’t stop all problems.

Skin Vitamins

When problems do arise with the skin, especially on the face, it’s time to try some other methods. Aloe vera is well known for its soothing and healing properties. Used often in first aid and skin care alike, it can cool the surface while adding moisture back into the skin to help it heal. Aloe stems are full of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that provide the skin the necessary vitamins to heal itself while bringing moisture at the same time. When something is more then just a mild irritation, when it is a psoriasis or eczema, a sun burn, even some light allergies, aloe has the necessary nutrients to tend to the skin and help it return to normal. Aloe is a cooling and calming product. When used regularly it can help maintain healthy skin, and when irritation occurs, it can soothe and heal.

Colloidal Oatmeal

Another source of antioxidants is a colloidal oatmeal. Oatmeal is often used to relieve itchiness and irritations, as well as reduce inflammation. Using products that contain aloe, oatmeal, jojoba oil, or soy, will help increase the antioxidants as well as the vitamins and minerals that help skin to remain healthy. Soy acts a little differently, in that it helps to create and boost the barrier the skin has against pollutants and irritations while keeping moisture locked in and adding the antioxidants the skin needs.

Clindamycin And Azelaic Acid

Prescriptions can also be used when the above methods don’t work, so a visit to the family doctor or dermatologist might be required. There are a couple of main methods that are most often tried first, one being clindamycin. This is an antibiotic that also helps to control inflammation and irritation from the inside out. Another well-used ingredient is azelaic acid. This can be particularly popular with rosacea as it can also reduce inflammation, redness, itch, and allow the skin to heal without further irritation.

Our skin needs all the right hydration, nutrients, minerals, and vitamins to remain healthy, but even then it can become irritated, red, or even develop more series concerns. There are some great options both over the counter and by prescription to help keep skin healthy and soothe any irritations.
