Chamomile has been used for centuries dating all the way back to when Egyptians used it in 1550 B.C. as remedies for colds and sicknesses. Now, it serves a variety of functions. The chamomile plant resembles that of a daisy and has two different subtypes, those being German and Roman chamomile.
It is often used as a sleep remedy, but it is not acommon of knowledge that chamomile is incredible for the skin as well. Below are the top five benefits of chamomile for your skin:
- Soothes your skin
Chamomile, just as it is in tea, is very soothing and relaxing, and this is true for your skin as well. Chamomile is packed full of anti-inflammatory and soothing properties that, if placed on very irritated or inflamed skin, can help to sooth your skin and bring it back to normal.
- Treats impurities
If you struggle with acne marks, wounds, or scrapes, chamomile can promote healing and create more even and smooth skin. In fact, chamomile has been used to treat wounds for centuries because of its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
- Lightens dark spots
Chamomile is often used by people who want to lighten certain areas of their face such as sunspots, dark spots, or under-eye bags. The antioxidants within chamomile help to boost your skin and give your skin that wondrous glow.
- Fights acne
Because of the massive amounts of antioxidants in chamomile, you can use it to fight acne or other skin problems, especially if your skin is inflamed or irritated. Chamomile not only helps to fight acne and relieve your skin from irritation, but it can also fight to minimize the appearance of acne marks after the fact.
- Is anti-aging
One thing that chamomile is known for above all else is its extraordinary amounts of antioxidants. These antioxidants help your skin to form a barrier that serves as a defense against free radicals. Through this, it promotes younger looking skin by minimizing the chances of fine lines and wrinkles.
Overall, while chamomile is great for the purpose of tea and sleep aids, it is also great for your overall skin health. Because of its antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, it can be used to soothe and moisturize your skin while also protecting it against damage. This is particularly true for those who have trouble skin because it is great at fighting impurities and minimizing their appearance. If you are someone that struggles with problem skin or just want to give your skin that extra glow, give chamomile a try because it may just be worth it!
