Cosmetic dentistry can improve your smile if you are not happy with the way that it looks. The specific procedure that you need will depend on your smile. A cosmetic dentist may recommend one of the following procedures to you.

Teeth Whitening

If you have stains or any discoloration on your teeth, then you can get rid of it by getting your teeth whitened. Teeth whitening, which is also known as teeth bleaching, will remove the stains from your teeth and make them stand out more when you smile.

Getting your teeth whitened can be a confidence boost that makes your smile even brighter! You can get this treatment done at the dentist's office, or you can get a professional whitening kit from your dentist to do it yourself at home.

Dental Veneers

If your teeth are damaged, chipped, broken or simply discolored, you could choose to get dental veneers bonded to them. A dental veneer is a small custom-made shell that the dentist will place over your enamel, permanently bonding it to the front of your tooth.

The veneers are made out of composite resin or porcelain materials. They can be used to alter the size, color, and shape of your teeth. You can have any number of them, whether just to cover one tooth or all of your front-facing teeth for a symmetrical smile. If dental veneers are properly cared for, then they can potentially last for 20 years.

Dental Implants

You can get dental implants if you have missing teeth. They are restorations that are made out of titanium or zirconia. The dentist will perform surgery to place them into your jawbone. Dental implants act as anchors for bridges, crowns, or dentures. If dental implants are taken care of, then you may not ever need to have them replaced.

Dental Crown

A dental crown is used on a tooth that has been severely damaged. It can restore the functionality, appearance, and strength of your tooth. Dental crowns can be made out of porcelain, composite resin, and ceramic. If dental crowns are taken care of, then they can potentially last 30 years.

Orthodontic Treatment

Contrary to popular belief, orthodontic treatment is not just for pre-teens and teens that need braces. It is also for adults who do not like their smiles. If you have misaligned teeth, then orthodontic treatment can certainly help.

There are several options, including traditional braces, clear braces, and lingual braces. Each option has its pros and cons, which the orthodontist can discuss with you. No matter which option you choose though, treatment times can vary. However, many people are able to complete their treatment in just two years.

If you’re unhappy with any part of your smile, ranging from the appearance of your smile to the shade of your teeth, you have options. Cosmetic dentistry can change your smile for the better. It just depends on the type of treatment you want to get.
