When discussing gut health, it refers to the balance and number of microorganisms that live in your digestive tract. Ensuring the health of your gut and making sure a healthy balance of these microorganisms is achieved is essential for immunity, mental health, physical health, and more.

Unfortunately, your gut health can be disrupted by many factors. The good news is that it is possible to improve gut health. While using supplements and learning about Thrive side effects is a good starting point, don't stop there. Keep reading to learn some other ways to improve your gut health.

Reduce Your Stress

If you have chronic stress levels and feel highly stressed often, it can impact your entire body, including your gut. Some of the ways you can reduce your stress include getting a massage, walking, and meditation. You can also spend time with friends or family, get a pet, and laugh more. All these things can help significantly reduce your stress.

Eat Fermented Foods and Take Probiotics

It's a good idea to increase the beneficial bacteria in your gut. You can do this with probiotic supplements or by eating more fermented foods. Today, some research supports taking probiotics to improve your gut microbiome. It is believed these can help reduce gut inflammation and prevent other types of intestinal issues.

A natural source of probiotics is fermented foods. Some fermented foods to try include tempeh, fermented vegetables, sauerkraut, kefir, miso, and kimchi.

Get Plenty of Sleep

If you don't get quality sleep or enough of it, your gut health may suffer. When this happens, it will lead to even more sleep problems. You should try to get a minimum of seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. If you find it difficult to sleep, your doctor can probably help.

Eat Prebiotic Fiber

Probiotics feed on prebiotics, which are non-digestible carbohydrates. This is a process that helps the good bacteria to multiply inside your gut.

Prebiotics can help probiotics to acclimate to some environmental conditions, including things like temperature and pH changes. If you want to improve your gut health, try eating prebiotic-rich foods such as garlic, bananas, whole grains, onions, and asparagus.

Eat Slowly

You need to ensure you eat your meals slowly and chew your food well. This will help to promote complete digestion and ensure your body absorbs the nutrients properly. This can help you reduce your overall digestive discomfort and help you maintain a healthy gut.

Eat Fewer Sweeteners and Sugar

If you consume a lot of artificial sweeteners or sugar, it can cause something called gut dysbiosis. This is when your gut microbes become imbalanced. The standard Western diet, which is very high in fat and sugar, negatively impacts your gut microbiome. Over time, this may influence your behavior and brain.

Also, consuming artificial sweetener aspartame will increase some bacterial strains, which have been linked to metabolic disease. With metabolic disease, you are at a higher risk for heart disease and diabetes. Artificial sweeteners may also negatively impact your blood glucose levels, which increases blood sugar even though they are not sugar.

Drink Plenty of Water

Drinking enough water can have a beneficial impact on your intestine's mucosa lining. It will also balance the good bacteria that are in your gut. Remaining hydrated is an easy way to ensure you have a healthy gut.

Avoid Antibiotics if You Don't Need Them

While you may have to take antibiotics occasionally, it can cause antibiotic resistance if you overuse them. Also, antibiotics can damage your gut microbiota and your immunity. If you don't truly need antibiotics, don't take them.

As you can see, there are several steps you can take to help improve your gut health. Be sure to keep this in mind if you want to improve your gut health. This will pay off and help ensure that you are healthy and that your gut remains healthy.
