The power of lemon has been used in cleaning for years but not everyone has realized how great it is for your skin. It can play a key role in your beauty routine - from consuming lemon in water for hydration and vitamins to using it applied directly to the skin to fight aging, clean pores, and improve skin. Lemon is affordable, usually easily available, and so versatile, it’s definitely a tool that has a place in every beauty routine.

Disinfectant

It is important to begin with ensuring everything is clean. Clean brushes for make up, clean supplies, clean towels and facecloths if you use them, and clean skin. For makeup brushes, lemon can be used to clean and disinfect them. As these brushes are used almost daily, or even multiple times a day in some situations, it is very important to keep them clean and disinfected to avoid both breakouts and bigger concerns from spreading bacteria over the face. By washing the brushes with vinegar, most dirt and bacteria will be removed, then rub them on the open side of half a lemon to remove the smell and add some disinfecting properties, or rinse in the juice from a lemon, and follow this by rinsing thoroughly in water.

Spritz

Lemon can also be used to help cleanse the skin by adding it to rose water in a clean bottle. This can be spritzed on the skin after the cleanser but before the moisturizer as a toner to help ensure pores are clean and encourage them to close. Having pores closed and clean will prevent dirt and pollutants from getting into them and causing breakouts or other skin issues. Lemon can also be used in the event of a self tanner mistake by using the lemon juice to wipe it away quickly.

Foot Soak

Lemon juice has so many benefits when applied to the skin because of its many vitamins and minerals. When applied directly to the skin whether as a toner, a quick spritz to refresh during the day, or a soak, the skin will absorb these vitamins and minerals to get the nutrients it needs to be healthy and look great. Even adding lemon to your foot soak, with Epsom salts, can help to refresh the skin on your feet and might even help improve sleep.  The other way to get all these nutrients is to drink them. Lemon added to water is the most popular way to consume lemon, but it can be added to many drinks including tea, iced tea or lemonade.

Lemon is a multipurpose food that can help with your beauty routine many ways. It can be soaked in, cleaned with, used as toner, to remove make up and tanning mistakes, and as a drink. Due to the amount of vitamins and nutrients in lemon, it can do everything from disinfect and stop the spread of bacteria to add vitamins to your daily water intake bringing health and beauty to the whole body.
