If you experience sore or inflamed gums and don’t know what they mean, we are here to help you. Sore gums can have a variety of causes and are treated accordingly. Along with medical treatments, there are also preventative measures that you can take to prevent your gums from becoming inflamed in the first place.

So, if your gums are aching when you eat, brush your teeth, or anything else, you may be suffering from some sort of gum sensitivity or inflammation. Some gum pains may be a small inconvenience while others may mean something more serious, so it is important to acknowledge which of those your pain is contributed to.

Causes Of Sore Gums

There can be a variety of things that contribute to your gums being sore. The most common causes are as follows:

  • Gingivitis (Early Form Of Gum Disease): Gingivitis is the earliest form of what is known as periodontitis, otherwise known as gum disease. If this is not controlled by medical attention, it can result in more serious gum problems and diseases.
  • Periodontitis (Gum Disease): Gum disease has serious repercussions such as the loss of teeth and even other health problems.
  • Unhealthy Diets: With the right foods and a balance of vitamin C and calcium, you are much less likely to experience gum inflammation or pain.
  • Stress: Stress will raise the level of cortisol that is spread in your body, and this can cause inflammation in your gums and elsewhere.
  • Smoking or Tobacco Use: If you use tobacco regularly, you are at a higher risk of sore gums as well as run a higher risk of suffering from gum disease.
  • Improper Oral Hygiene: If you do not take care of your teeth and mouth the way that you are supposed to, this will likely result in oral problems such as sore gums and other issues with your teeth and/or gums.

Treatment And Pain Relief Methods

There are ways to treat and relieve the pain and discomfort of aching gums. Some of the treatments for the disease come from your dentist, but the treatments that you can do from home in your daily routine include:

  • Brushing your teeth twice a day
  • Flossing every day
  • Use a soft bristle toothbrush
  • Invest in an electric toothbrush
  • See your dentist on a regular basis
  • Eat healthy and balance your nutrients
  • Use the proper toothpaste or tooth oil for sensitive gums

Overall, if you are suffering from sensitive and inflamed gums, the cause is often something simple that can be easily changed or added into your daily routine. However, if your gums continue to be inflamed and you are experiencing a lot of pain, this can be contributed to various gum diseases. If these go untreated, they can result in irreversible consequences.

Because of this, it is crucial that you take care of your oral hygiene and see your dentist regularly to prevent anything bad from happening to your teeth or gums.
