Healthy Teeth Tips – Signs Of A Healthy Mouth
Written By Kassandra Foreman / Reviewed By Ray Spotts
Healthy teeth and gums can help build a healthy life and help avoid some illness and disease. There are some basics to taking care of oral health, and some signs that you’ll see that your mouth is healthy and happy.
From brushing and flossing to avoiding sugary treats and damaging habits, you can do many things to keep your teeth healthy, and you’ll see the results of those efforts when you brush and floss every day.
When you brush your teeth and they are white and strong with no staining or signs of decay you know that you have healthy teeth. Gums will be pink but not red, not bleeding or swelling in any way, and they won’t hurt when you floss or have any discharge or puss.
Along with a pink tongue that shows no signs of spotting or white residue, you can see how healthy your mouth is with every two minutes of brushing and a round of flossing.
Healthy Gums, Tongue And Cheeks For A Healthy Mouth
To have a healthy mouth you need to care for not only the teeth, but also the gums, tongue, and cheeks. Infections in any of these areas can spread to the others, and can lead to illness, even spreading outside the mouth.
Teeth should be brushed and flossed twice daily, but also the tongue and cheeks. A toothbrush can be used to gently brush the tongue to remove any build-up and food particles, or a tongue cleaner can be used to gently scrape the tongue.
While brushing the teeth it is okay to also brush the cheeks lightly, or to rinse the whole mouth with a natural, alcohol-free mouth rinse that will help clean the inside of the mouth.
Regular Dental Visits For A Healthy Mouth
Dentist visits are important for oral health and should be scheduled at least once a year. In many cases they are twice a year and include a cleaning and an exam. Also included could be X-rays as needed to ensure that the roots of the teeth and the jaw are also healthy, and any necessary fillings or other work to maintain the health of your mouth. These appointments will remove all build-up and plague, allowing for clean and healthy teeth.
Regular Dental Hygiene For A Healthy Mouth
Oral health is important not only for eating and appearance, but also for maintaining the health of the entire body. When signs of bleeding, discoloration, staining or spots are noticed, they should be addressed as soon as possible to avoid further damage or infection.
The entire mouth must be cleaned and cared for daily, not just the teeth alone. Healthy teeth and gums will be one color, a shade of white for teeth and pink for gums, there will be no bleeding or discoloured spots, and breath will smell fresh or not at all.
