4 Habits For Healthy Teeth To Help Your Children Establish Good Health
Teaching excellent dental habits has to start young. No one particularly enjoys brushing their teeth or flossing. Fewer enjoy going to the dentist. However, these are all habits that have to be formed in order to promote good oral hygiene for the rest of your life. For parents of young children, the time to start forming those habits is now. Here are four habits to introduce your child to promote healthy teeth.
Brushing Twice
While brushing your teeth is important, it’s even more important that you brush the correct amount of times a day. For maximum oral health, it’s recommended that you brush twice a day. It’s also a good idea to brush after meals, too, to make sure all of the residues are removed from your teeth. However, at the very least, your children should be instructed to brush once in the morning and once in the evening.
Drinking Less Pop
Children love sugary drinks. However, those drinks aren’t great for their teeth. The sugar can cause plaque to form. With enough plaque, brushing can no longer remove bacteria below the teeth. As a result, cavities form. In time, the teeth might start to fall out or deteriorate significantly, and you’ll need dental implants. Healthy habits should start at the beginning. Help your child stop drinking so many sugary beverages.
Going To The Dentist
Another important habit to get them used to is seeing the dentist. Everyone should visit the dentist at least once every six months. Regular cleanings can help boost your teeth strength and health. They possess tools that you can’t get anywhere else that can effectively remove plaque and keep your teeth and gums healthy. Children should become comfortable with visiting the dentist, so they continue to do so as adults.
No Thumb Sucking
One plague that exists among children is sucking their thumbs. No matter how many times you tell them not to, you keep finding their thumb in their mouth. Not only can this introduce bacteria into their mouths, but it can also make their teeth crooked. To prevent the need for braces later, you should curb thumb sucking as much as you can.
Prevention is the key aspect of helping your children have healthy teeth into adulthood. In order to prevent cavities and other problems, then you need to establish these four healthy habits for their teeth. Doing so will ensure their teeth remain strong.
