How To Whiten Teeth Correctly And Avoid Scams

Sun, Oct 21, 18 . Ray Spotts

A great way to boost your confidence and even make yourself look years younger is through the use of a quality teeth whitening product. Unfortunately, there are many scams floating around out there. It’s not just that they don’t work, these scams may suck you in with a “low introductory price,” and then hook you into some kind of subscription or continuity program that can cost much, much more.

Worse yet is that some of these teeth whitening scams just take your money, and send you no product whatsoever! Here are some tips on how to recognize a teeth whitening scam.

How To Recognize Teeth Whitening Scams

One very simple rule in all commerce is that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If you come across ads that tell you that you can have beautifully white teeth in under a week and for less than $5, they are probably teeth-whitening scams.

Test The Data

If you are still not sure if an offer is legitimate or not, do a little more testing. Do another internet search, and note how many websites or stories pop up that are basically saying the same thing, but perhaps the name of the discoverer is changed, or the location at which they live.

Review The Reviews

Read the reviews on a few different websites. Are they basically saying the same thing? What kind of contact info is listed for the contributors? Can you add comments/reviews? Are there any mediocre or negative reviews? Let’s be honest, not everyone is going to be pleased with a product, so if there are no dissuading reviews, then they are probably fake.

Check Out Images

Check out the images your search pulls up. If “one mom” in Boston, MA learned this trick to whiten teeth, why does she look so different in photos on various websites?

Watch For Fake “Deals”

Some other indications that it is a scam are fake countdowns that tell you you must order within the next 15:15...15:14...15:13. Yet it hits zero, and nothing changes. Another telltale sign is supposed celebrity endorsements that are nothing more than a teeth whitening scam adding a photo to their page.

FDA Approved?

Does the in-store or online product claim it is FDA approved? If so, then it is certainly being misleading, if not an outright teeth whitening scam. Only in-office whitening is approved by the FDA, while those you can buy OTC are considered cosmetic, and not reviewed or regulated by the FDA.

The Good, The Bad, And The Indifferent About At-Home Teeth Bleaching

The world seems to have become obsessed with having bright white teeth. Studies show that 40.5 million people in the United States alone used teeth whitening products in 2018. As a result, the options available can be dizzying. Let’s discuss some of the things you should watch for in a teeth whitening system.

The Good

Teeth whitening, when done correctly and safely, can bring incredible results, and you can enjoy the benefits such as:

  • Greater confidence
  • Better first impressions
  • Better prospects for being hired
  • Younger look
  • Better oral health (take better care of nicer looking teeth)

The Bad

At-home whitening can be tricky, messy, and even somewhat awful. Tray kits are not always effective due to ill-fitting trays. Whitening strips tend to slide around and be uncomfortable.

There are also some risks that can accompany teeth whitening, including:

  • Increased tooth sensitivity
  • Irritated gums
  • Damaged tooth enamel

The Indifferent

You should never be indifferent when it comes to the care of your teeth, but you do not have to be fast and firm with your decision about which type of whitening system to use. You can try different styles, like strips, trays, or just whitening toothpastes. You can choose in-office or at-home-whitening. It all depends on what results you would like to see.

How To Effectively Whiten Your Teeth

The best way to whiten your teeth is to have it done in-office by a dental professional. It may seem too expensive, but when you review the benefit-cost-ratio of in-office whitening to over-the-counter kits, and the results you get from each, most times you will find that to get the same results you will spend about the same amount.

A major component of teeth whitening is good oral health care. Use a brush with bristles that are adequate for your teeth and gums, and that fits your mouth. Brush your teeth at least twice a day for at least 2 minutes per brushing. All-natural oral care is a wonderful way to keep your mouth healthy without the risk of unwanted chemicals, cleansers, or abrasives.
