Sobre Óleos Botânicos

O uso de óleos botânicos pode ser rastreado há milhares de anos, com raízes em culturas tão diversas quanto os antigos sumérios, chineses e o Império Romano.[1] Óleos botânicos são preparados a partir da planta inteira, preservando seu aroma, ingredientes ativos principais e a essência da planta. Óleos botânicos feitos de várias plantas foram usados ao longo da história para honrar deuses,[2] preparar corpos para funerais,[3] preservar a beleza, ajudar na higiene e tratar uma ampla variedade de condições médicas. Instruções para a preparação e uso de plantas como remédio estão catalogadas nas obras de Dioscórides, De materia medica[4], lá no primeiro século. A tecnologia moderna permitiu identificar e estudar as partes ativas das plantas por seu papel na saúde e sua utilidade contra várias condições médicas.  

As Propriedades das Amêndoas

A antiga árvore de amêndoa ocupou uma posição honrada em muitas culturas. Árvores de amêndoa são mencionadas várias vezes na Bíblia. Florindo no início da primavera, seu nome hebraico significa “industrioso” ou “vigilante” e era considerado um sinal da punição súbita e rápida de Deus no antigo Israel. Os chineses veem a amêndoa como um símbolo de tristeza duradoura e beleza feminina[5].  

Tipos de Amêndoas

O óleo abundante da amêndoa tem um aroma agradavelmente suave, cor clara e não possui um sabor forte[6]. Existem duas variedades principais de amêndoas, doce (Prunus dulcis) e amarga (Prunus amara ou amygdalus). A variedade de amêndoa doce é mais amplamente utilizada porque produz mais dos óleos valiosos pelos quais as amêndoas são conhecidas e apresenta menor risco de toxicidade. A variedade de amêndoa amarga contém amigdalina, assim como as sementes de outros membros da família Prunus, incluindo cerejas, damascos e ameixas. Quando a amigdalina é digerida, a interação com a água e os germes do intestino produz grandes quantidades de ácido prússico,[7] ou cianeto. A amêndoa amarga também contém benzaldeído, seu óleo essencial, que é tóxico[8]. Como esses componentes são tóxicos, ou até letais em doses muito pequenas, a amêndoa amarga não deve ser consumida e não é vendida nos Estados Unidos.  

 

Nutrientes

A amêndoa é uma potência nutricional. As amêndoas são compostas por aproximadamente 21% de proteína, 50% de gordura, 22% de carboidratos, mais da metade dos quais é fibra, e 5% de água, tornando a farinha de amêndoa uma escolha popular para diabéticos.[9] Os ácidos graxos da amêndoa são principalmente gorduras insaturadas, com algumas gorduras saturadas e sem colesterol. Especificamente, o óleo de amêndoa tem de 4 a 9% de ácido palmítico, 0,9 a 3% de ácido esteárico, 50 a 86% de ácido oleico e 20 a 30% de ácido linoleico.[10][11] ácido.[12] Desses, o ácido palmítico e o ácido esteárico são ácidos graxos saturados, mas representam menos de 12% do total de ácidos graxos. O ácido linoleico, abundante na amêndoa, é um ácido graxo ômega-6. Embora os ácidos graxos ômega-3 sejam mais conhecidos por seus benefícios à saúde, a dieta e a saúde da pele e do cabelo requerem um equilíbrio entre os ácidos graxos ômega-6 e ômega-3. A dieta americana tende a conter uma grande quantidade de ômega-6, que pode se converter no ácido araquidônico inflamatório, especialmente quando a fonte é carne. Fontes vegetais de ácidos graxos ômega-6 se convertem em ácido gama-linolênico, que é anti-inflamatório, antes de se tornar ácido araquidônico. A dieta mediterrânea, reconhecida como um meio eficaz de combater doenças cardíacas, é rica em fontes vegetais de ômega-6, incluindo amêndoas.[13]
Além dos ácidos graxos, as amêndoas contêm os nutrientes lipossolúveis vitamina E, principalmente como o potente antioxidante alfa-tocoferol, e vitamina A. As vitaminas do complexo B presentes nas amêndoas incluem B1 (tiamina), B2 (riboflavina), B3 (niacina), B6 e folato. As amêndoas são uma fonte rica em potássio. Vários outros minerais também são encontrados nas amêndoas, incluindo cálcio, ferro, magnésio, fósforo, zinco e uma pequena quantidade de sódio.[14]
As propriedades de qualquer planta individual podem diferir até mesmo de outra planta da mesma espécie e genótipo,[15] dependendo de quando a planta é considerada madura,[16] e variações nos locais ou condições de cultivo.[17]
Embora todos esses nutrientes estejam presentes em qualquer óleo de amêndoa, a quantidade de cada nutriente encontrada em uma certa quantidade de óleo pode variar. As plantas se adaptam ao ambiente, então uma planta cultivada com mais ou menos sol ou chuva[18] pode se ajustar a essas condições, produzindo perfis nutricionais ligeiramente diferentes.  

Preparação do Óleo de Amêndoa

A amêndoa não é tecnicamente uma noz ou fruta! É um drupa, que se refere às suas múltiplas camadas. A casca externa do fruto da amendoeira é uma cobertura grossa e verde. Dentro da casca está o endocarpo, que é duro e lenhoso, semelhante ao exterior do caroço encontrado em seu parente, o pêssego. Dentro do endocarpo está a semente, ou amêndoa.[19] O óleo de amêndoa é extraído desta semente madura.  

Prensado por Extrusora e Prensado a Frio

Prensagem por extrusora refere-se ao processo de quebrar lentamente as amêndoas sob pressão mecânica, como duas placas de metal giratórias, para liberar as gorduras da amêndoa.[20] Prensagem a frio significa que o óleo foi prensado por extrusora em baixa temperatura.[21] A baixa temperatura evita que o óleo estrague. O óleo de amêndoa produzido por um processo de prensagem a frio é mais escuro do que o refinado, mas acredita-se que seja mais rico nas propriedades que tornam a planta original valiosa, incluindo suas gorduras monoinsaturadas e atividade antimicrobiana.[22] A extração por destilação para os óleos essenciais das amêndoas doces geralmente não é necessária porque os óleos são tão abundantes nas sementes. Mesmo um processo caseiro é suficiente para liberar o óleo.[23]

Extração por Destilação

A extração por destilação significa expor uma planta à água ou vapor para decompor o material vegetal e liberar o óleo essencial. Os óleos são resfriados e condensados para coleta.[24] A extração por destilação é usada para extrair amigdalina das amêndoas amargas. A amigdalina não está presente no óleo cru, então a extração por prensa não funcionaria. A amigdalina é produzida pela ação da emulsina, um componente da amêndoa amarga que é ativado quando a água está presente. Se a temperatura estiver muito alta quando essa reação ocorre, a emulsina se decompõe e a amigdalina não pode ser liberada.

Quando a amigdalina é produzida, a amêndoa amarga também libera o óleo essencial benzaldeído e uma pequena quantidade de ácido hidrociânico, também chamado de ácido prússico. Este ácido prússico, ou cianeto, é extremamente tóxico, mas pode ser removido com uma destilação adicional, deixando o óleo de amêndoa amarga livre de ácido prússico, também referido como óleo de amêndoa amarga, FFPA. Este é o aromatizante popular na culinária.

Mesmo quando é livre de cianeto, o benzaldeído e a amigdalina também são tóxicos, por isso o óleo amargo é usado em doses de gotas.[25][26] O extrato de óleo de amêndoa amarga tem um sabor forte de amêndoa e é usado na culinária. Amêndoas amargas cruas não são vendidas nos EUA. Fontes comerciais de extrato de amêndoa podem ser feitas a partir de frutas produtoras de amigdalina da mesma família da amêndoa, incluindo pêssegos ou damascos. No entanto, essas frutas produzem menos amigdalina, então o sabor é menos forte do que quando a amigdalina é extraída das amêndoas amargas.[27]  

 

Usos Medicinais do Óleo de Amêndoa

Usos na Medicina Ayurvédica e Chinesa
O óleo de amêndoa é tomado internamente e aplicado topicamente. Na medicina chinesa antiga e na medicina ayurvédica (o sistema tradicional de medicina da Índia), o óleo de amêndoa é usado em condições de pele seca, incluindo eczema e psoríase.
A amêndoa na medicina ayurvédica é considerada a melhor de todas as nozes; capaz de melhorar a essência do corpo que sustenta o intelecto, a espiritualidade e a capacidade reprodutiva. Tanto a medicina chinesa quanto a ayurvédica consideram as amêndoas eficazes para limpar condições dos pulmões, como congestão brônquica. O óleo pode ser tomado internamente ou usado em massagem para estimular a limpeza dos pulmões.[28]  
Cosméticos
O óleo de amêndoas é um óleo base popular em produtos cosméticos devido às suas propriedades agradáveis e suaves. Ele é bem absorvido pela pele e a amacia, tornando-se uma escolha principal para fabricação de sabonetes, bálsamos labiais e óleos de banho.[29]  
Massagem
O óleo de amêndoas é um óleo carreador para medicamentos e amplamente usado como veículo para outros óleos essenciais[30] porque seu aroma suave não sobrepõe outros cheiros. É um favorito entre os massoterapeutas. O óleo de amêndoas é ligeiramente oleoso, ajudando a mão do massoterapeuta a deslizar na pele, mas é bem absorvido.[31] As gorduras e nutrientes benéficos presentes no óleo de amêndoas podem ser absorvidos pela pele. O uso do óleo de amêndoas para massagear bebês prematuros melhorou seus escores neurológicos e aumentou seu ganho de peso[32] comparado ao placebo.  
Cicatrizes e Estrias
O óleo de amêndoas é bem absorvido e rico em vitaminas lipossolúveis E e A. Esses nutrientes provavelmente contribuem para o benefício observado do óleo de amêndoas na redução de cicatrizes após cirurgia e no alisamento e rejuvenescimento da pele.[33] Há algumas evidências da eficácia da massagem com óleo de amêndoas para reduzir estrias durante a gravidez.[34]  
Saúde Cardiovascular
Tomado internamente, o óleo de amêndoas é uma fonte rica em ácidos graxos ômega-6 e vários outros nutrientes. Muitos estudos foram feitos com a amêndoa inteira, encontrando benefícios para doenças cardiovasculares, incluindo o aumento do HDL,[35] o “colesterol bom”, redução da gordura abdominal e diminuição do LDL, o “colesterol ruim”, substituindo lanches ricos em carboidratos,[36] redução dos níveis de glicose,[37] prevenção de danos ao fígado e melhoria do funcionamento dos vasos sanguíneos.[38]  
Saúde Gastrointestinal
Um número crescente de pesquisas apoia a importância do microbioma intestinal para a saúde. Um estudo comparou o efeito das amêndoas moídas na hora com amêndoas que haviam sido desengorduradas sobre os germes intestinais. O estudo descobriu que as amêndoas moídas na hora, com as gorduras intactas, apoiavam um perfil de germes melhor do que as nozes desengorduradas.[39] O óleo de amêndoas apoia um tempo saudável de trânsito intestinal, tornando-o útil para o tratamento da síndrome do intestino irritável (SII).  
Usos Tradicionais O óleo de amêndoas é considerado benéfico para uma ampla variedade de condições com base no uso tradicional, embora não haja pesquisas consistentes a favor ou contra a eficácia desses usos. O óleo de amêndoas é considerado anti-inflamatório, estimulante do sistema imunológico, anti-hepatotóxico e pode também reduzir a incidência de câncer de cólon.[40]  
Uso do óleo de amêndoa amarga O óleo de amêndoa amarga é tóxico para ingestão, mas historicamente tem sido usado para controlar febres, possivelmente porque pode matar germes, vírus e fungos. Tem sido usado como vermífugo para eliminar vermes no trato gastrointestinal.[41] O óleo de amêndoa amarga induz suor e aumento da produção de urina. Embora não existam estudos em humanos, o uso do óleo de amêndoa amarga para espasmos, dor, tosse e coceira é reconhecido.[42]  

Perguntas sobre óleo de amêndoa

O que devo procurar em um óleo de amêndoa? O óleo de amêndoa não refinado e prensado a frio terá o melhor perfil de nutrientes e gorduras. Pode ser mais escuro e ter um cheiro mais forte do que um óleo refinado, mas o aroma e o sabor geral ainda devem ser relativamente suaves.  

Se eu sou alérgico a amêndoas, posso usar óleo de amêndoa? Se você tem alergia a nozes, ou se não tem certeza se tem alergia a nozes, o óleo de amêndoa deve ser evitado, mesmo como agente tópico.  

É seguro usar óleo de amêndoa em crianças? Se seu filho tem alergia a nozes, ou se você não tem certeza se ele tem alergia a nozes, o óleo de amêndoa deve ser evitado, mesmo como agente tópico. Já houve casos de crianças desenvolvendo alergias a amêndoas apenas pela exposição tópica.[43] Pergunte a um médico sobre testes para alergia a amêndoas.  

Posso cozinhar com óleo de amêndoa? Você pode cozinhar com óleo de amêndoa; o óleo – ou um extrato de amêndoa – pode ser um ingrediente em receitas de confeitaria. O óleo de amêndoa não é estável em altas temperaturas, então não é a melhor escolha para uso com calor intenso.  

Qual é a validade do óleo de amêndoa? Mantido sob condições adequadas de armazenamento, a validade do óleo de amêndoa dura cerca de 2 anos. O alto teor de vitamina E do óleo de amêndoa ajuda a protegê-lo do estresse oxidativo que ocorre quando o óleo começa a ficar rançoso, prolongando sua vida útil. O óleo de amêndoa tem baixo teor de umidade, com apenas cerca de 5% de água, então, desde que a umidade seja evitada, ele não se deteriora facilmente. O óleo de amêndoa deve ser mantido em condições frescas, pois se deteriora em temperaturas mais altas.[44]  

O óleo de amêndoa não vai entupir meus poros? A amêndoa é um bom emoliente, o que significa que é eficaz em quebrar e amaciar a pele. Mesmo assim, os poros do rosto podem ser mais sensíveis ao entupimento por óleos mais espessos. Se você tende a ter pele oleosa, o óleo de amêndoa pode ser melhor usado em outras partes do corpo.  

Vou ganhar peso com as calorias do óleo de amêndoa? A maioria dos estudos mostra que a perda de peso é resultado de mais amêndoas na dieta. Como um alimento denso em nutrientes, ele pode ajudar você a se sentir satisfeito mais rápido, substituindo alimentos com maior teor de carboidratos que são, no geral, menos nutritivos.  

Atenção e Considerações O óleo de amêndoa é feito a partir de amêndoas. Não use topicamente ou ingira se você tem alergia a amêndoas ou a todas as nozes.   Amêndoas estão em um grupo de alimentos que podem causar síndrome de alergia oral.[45] Os outros alimentos deste grupo de alimentos com pólen de bétula são maçãs, amêndoas, cenouras, aipo, cerejas, avelãs, kiwi, pêssegos, peras e ameixas. Se você tiver reação a qualquer um desses alimentos, consulte seu médico antes de fazer do óleo de amêndoa uma parte regular da sua dieta ou regime cosmético.
