4 Signs Poor Sleeping Habits Are Affecting Your Health

Experts state that your body needs six to eight hours of sleep each day. However, many Americans are stressed to the max, which affects their quality of sleep. Did you know that if you have poor sleeping habits that it can affect your health? Shockingly, if you go just 24 hours without the proper amount of sleep, you can have symptoms of schizophrenia. Here are four signs that your sleeping habits are affecting your health.

You're Tired All The Time

If you find yourself running on empty most of the day, it could be your sleep habits that are causing you problems. If you aren't getting enough or you wake up often during the night, it can cause you to feel tired and run down the next day. Make sure that you go to bed at a decent hour, and even if you wake up, stay in bed and relax until you fall back to sleep.

You Seem To Have Weakened Immunity

Your immune system has a direct correlation with your health. Have you ever heard the doctor say that you need to rest when you are sick? Sleeping builds immunity. Sleep deprivation inhibits your immune system from creating defenses against illnesses. If you get sick, you may have a hard time recovering, and you will catch every germ coming and going.

You're Packing On The Pounds

Did you know that your weight can be blamed on poor sleeping habits? Poor eating habits and exercise aren't the only culprits. People who are sleep deprived have slower metabolisms, and they often binge eat during the day. Plus, if you feel run down, you may be more inclined to eat and drink substances to stay awake.

Your Mental Health Is Declining

We know that mental health issues are a concern with sleep deprivation. If you notice that you are more anxious than usual or that you can't seem to shake the blues, then it may be your sleep that is to blame. Doctors always look for an underlying cause of mental health concerns, especially if they start suddenly. Your lack of rest could be stealing your sanity.

Finally, getting enough rest is about more than just feeling tired the next day. You can have some severe issues if you don't allow your body the time it needs to recuperate from the day. If you have an ongoing sleep problem, then you need to talk to your doctor. You may have an underlying concern, like sleep apnea or a misaligned jaw, that is stopping you from getting the proper amount of sleep.
