Chlorophyll Your World With Wheatgrass

Trusted Health Products

The scientific jury is still out about the benefits of wheatgrass, but my own anecdotal testimony is that its a tremendous whole food which has boosted my energy level through the roof!

While the cultivation and use of wheat is a 5,000 year old tradition, the modern day use of wheatgrass in America started in the 1930s. Powdered wheatgrass was sold in Canadian and American drugstores before the Second World War.

Today's proponents tout its benefits in a variety of forms: frozen, juiced, pilled, and powdered. Thousands use it as part of a raw food diet or in a detox regimen. Wheatgrass is a whole food in the truest sense of the word. It contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and chlorophyll all of which can help to optimize health.

Wheatgrass is a good source of potassium, iron, zinc, selenium, copper, magnesium, manganese, calcium, and vitamins A, B6, C, E, and K. And, of course, its a great source of dietary fiber.

While it cant cure cancer [as some have claimed] it has helped minimize the side effects of chemo treatments for breast cancer. Some devotees use it to help with bladder problems, digestive disorders, and in the maintenance of blood sugar disorders like diabetes.

To take full advantage of the chlorophyll in wheatgrass, you need to use fresh, live wheatgrass. Among blood cell builders, the chlorophyll in wheatgrass is a colossus. It contains antioxidant enzymes that fight free radicals, strengthen the production of red blood cells, and slow down the aging process. The chlorophyll in wheatgrass also acts as an antibacterial agent which promotes natural healing; and it can help purify or detox your liver.

I've tried grazing on my own home-grown patch of wheatgrass, which was novel, but more work intensive than I expected, especially since it clogged my low-tech, budget-friendly little juicer. Nevertheless, the wheatgrass juice definitely revved up my system and gave me the physical and mental energy I needed.

I've also purchased the juice in frozen form - little green ice cubes. Very low maintenance and easy to use. I loved it. Now I use a modest amount of powdered wheatgrass mixed with spirulina each morning to make a mean green breakfast shake. A dash of cayenne, a juicy tomato, a dollop of organic cold pressed coconut oil, and a sprinkling of lemon pepper - what a yummy start to my day!

As with all wonder-foods, discretion and moderation should be used. Wheatgrass is more a medicinal herb than a food and should be used judiciously. Consult your physician or naturopath before incorporating it into your diet.
