Here are four signs of eye disease you should watch for to ensure you can see clearly for your daily tasks at every stage of life.

Watch Eye Pain as you age

Pain in the eye is always a sign you need to see an eye doctor immediately. If you have had an injury to the eye, your optometrist may be able to help or can refer you to someone who can.

Redness, swelling and itching with a crusty discharge can be a sign of infection that your optometrist can treat effectively. Pain can also be related to more serious eye conditions, which require immediate care.

Watch Frequent Changes of Prescription as you age

If you need to change your eyeglass or contact lens prescription frequently and are still not seeing well, it could be a sign of another problem that requires attention. Diminishing vision often occurs with aging, but it can sometimes signal a medical problem that requires effective treatment to preserve your vision.

Watch Blurring of Vision as you age

Blurred vision can have a number of causes. If you spend a great deal of working on computers or looking at your Smartphone screen, you can develop eye strain and dryness that can lead to blurred vision.

Blurred vision can also be a sign of dry eye syndrome that can be caused by a number of different factors. Blurring can also be a sign of eye diseases associated with aging that should be treated by your eye doctor.

Watch Blank Spots in Your Field of Vision as you age

If you suddenly notice blank spots in your field of vision, you should consult with an eye professional immediately. Certain eye diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy can cause obscuring in peripheral vision or the central field of vision.

This can be a condition that needs immediate attention. Similarly, any unusual occurrence, such as a sense that a veil is coming down to obscure your vision, should be seen by your eye doctor as soon as possible.
