Über botanische Öle

Die Verwendung botanischer Öle lässt sich über Tausende von Jahren zurückverfolgen, mit Wurzeln in Kulturen so vielfältig wie die alten Sumerer, Chinesen und das Römische Reich.[1]

Botanische Öle werden aus der ganzen Pflanze hergestellt, wobei ihr Duft, die Hauptwirkstoffe und das Wesen der Pflanze erhalten bleiben. Botanische Öle aus verschiedenen Pflanzen wurden im Laufe der Geschichte verwendet, um Götter zu ehren,[2] Körper für Beerdigungen vorzubereiten,[3] Schönheit zu bewahren, bei der Hygiene zu helfen und eine Vielzahl von medizinischen Beschwerden zu behandeln. Anleitungen zur Zubereitung und Anwendung von Pflanzen als Medizin sind in den Werken von Dioskurides, De materia medica, katalogisiert.[4]bereits im ersten Jahrhundert.

Moderne Technologie hat es ermöglicht, die aktiven Bestandteile von Pflanzen zu identifizieren und auf ihre Rolle für die Gesundheit und ihre Wirksamkeit bei verschiedenen medizinischen Bedingungen zu untersuchen. Der Wert botanischer Öle hat sich über die Zeit bewährt.  

Die Eigenschaften der Nachtkerze

Die Nachtkerze ist eine Wildblume, die vor etwa 70.000 Jahren in Mittelamerika und Mexiko entstand und nach Norden wanderte, um in den gesamten Vereinigten Staaten zu wachsen, besonders an Flussufern und in sandigen Böden. Es ist eine Blütenpflanze, deren gelbe Blüten sich nur abends öffnen, was ihr den Namen gibt.[5]

Europäische Siedler brachten die Wurzel nach England und Deutschland, wo sie als Nahrung verwendet wurde, und nach Italien, von wo aus sie sich in ganz Europa verbreitete. Sie wird erstmals 1587 in botanischen Werken erwähnt, und im 16.te Im Jahrhundert wurde sie als „Königs-Allheilmittel“ bezeichnet, wegen ihrer Nützlichkeit bei vielen Krankheiten. Ihr lateinischer Name, Oenothera, bedeutet „eine Pflanze, deren Saft Schlaf verursachen kann“, was auf ihre beruhigenden Eigenschaften hinweist.[6] Die Ureinwohner Amerikas rieben Nachtkerze auf ihre Mokassins, um ihren Geruch zu überdecken und sich den Tieren zu nähern. Man glaubte, dass sie beim Jagen Glück bringt, möglicherweise aus diesem Grund.[7]  

Nährstoffe

Die gesamte Nachtkerzenpflanze kann als Nahrung verwendet werden. Die nussig schmeckende Wurzel wurde von den Ureinwohnern Amerikas gegessen.[8] und die Engländer[9] und die Deutschen nannten es Rapunzel[10] und bevorzugten es als nahrhafter als Rindfleisch.[11] Die jungen Blätter können roh in Salaten gegessen werden.

Die Blätter werden sehr bitter, können aber durch mehrmaliges Kochen in frischem Wasser schmackhafter gemacht werden. Die essbaren Samen wurden als Ersatz für Mohnsamen verwendet. Aus den Samen wird das wertvolle Nachtkerzenöl gewonnen. Das Samenöl ist der einzige Teil der Pflanze, der noch routinemäßig konsumiert wird, und die essentiellen Fettsäuren sind die einzigen Nährstoffe der Pflanze, die untersucht wurden.

Die Fette der Nachtkerze sind essentielle Fettsäuren. Essentielle Nährstoffe sind solche, die der Körper nicht selbst herstellen kann – sie müssen über die Nahrung aufgenommen werden. Linolsäure, die dominierende Fettsäure im Nachtkerzenöl, ist auch reichlich in grünen Blattgemüsen, Samen und Nüssen enthalten.[12]

Während Omega-3-Fettsäuren besser für ihre gesundheitlichen Vorteile bekannt sind, erfordern Haut- und Haargesundheit eine Balance zwischen Omega-6- und Omega-3-Fettsäuren. Die amerikanische Ernährung enthält tendenziell viele Omega-6-Fettsäuren, die besonders aus Fleischquellen in entzündliche Arachidonsäure umgewandelt werden können. Pflanzliche Quellen von Omega-6-Fettsäuren werden hingegen zu Gamma-Linolensäure umgewandelt, die entzündungshemmend wirkt, bevor sie zu Arachidonsäure wird.[13]

Während Nachtkerzenöl hauptsächlich Linolsäure enthält, sind darin auch bis zu 10 % Gamma-Linolensäure (GLA) enthalten.[14] GLA wird im Körper zu Dihomo-GLA (DGLA) umgewandelt, das entzündungshemmend wirkt, bevor es zu Arachidonsäure wird. Für die Umwandlung sind ausreichende Mengen an Magnesium, Zink sowie den Vitaminen C, B3 und B6 erforderlich.[15] GLA ist in der menschlichen Muttermilch reichlich vorhanden, wo es offenbar hilft, den IgE-Spiegel zu regulieren, ein Immunglobulin, das mit Allergien in Verbindung steht.[16] Abgesehen von Muttermilch ist GLA in der Nahrung selten und kommt nur in schwarzen Johannisbeeren, Borretschsamen und Spirulina vor.[17]

Nachtkerzenöl enthält außerdem Ölsäure, Palmitinsäure und Stearinsäure. Diese Fette tragen zur geschmeidigen Eigenschaft des Nachtkerzenöls bei, was es in der Kosmetik nützlich macht, sind aber in vielen Pflanzen reichlich vorhanden. Ebenso ist EPO eine Quelle für Pflanzensterole, die helfen, den Cholesterinspiegel zu senken, aber auch in vielen anderen pflanzlichen Lebensmitteln weit verbreitet sind. Nachtkerze wird hauptsächlich wegen ihres hohen GLA-Gehalts geschätzt.[18]  

Herstellung von Nachtkerzenöl

Kaltgepresst

Expeller-Pressung bezeichnet den Prozess, bei dem Nachtkerzensamen langsam unter mechanischem Druck, wie zwischen zwei rotierenden Metallplatten, zerkleinert werden, um die Fette freizusetzen. Kaltgepresst bedeutet, dass das Öl bei niedriger Temperatur expellergepresst wurde.

Die niedrige Temperatur verhindert, dass das Öl verdirbt.[19] und hilft, die vorteilhaften Eigenschaften der Pflanze, einschließlich der Pflanzensterole, zu bewahren.[20] Die Flüchtigkeit der wertvollen extrahierten Verbindungen macht den Prozess sehr empfindlich, weshalb er in einem engen Temperaturbereich durchgeführt werden muss.[21]

Lösungsmittel-Extraktion

Die Menge an Öl, die aus den Nachtkerzensamen gewonnen wird, ist relativ gering, aber sehr wertvoll. Die Ölmenge wird durch den Einsatz eines Lösungsmittels wie Hexan während des Extraktionsprozesses deutlich erhöht. Das Hexan wird anschließend bei niedrigem Druck und niedrigen Temperaturen entfernt.

Um das Risiko einer Lösungsmittelbelastung vollständig zu vermeiden, haben verschiedene Unternehmen alternative Methoden erforscht. Eine davon ist die überkritische Flüssigextraktion mit Kohlendioxid. Dabei wird die Ölextraktion unter sorgfältig überwachten Temperatur- und Druckbedingungen durchgeführt, wobei Kohlendioxid verwendet wird, um die maximale Menge Öl zu gewinnen.[22]

Medizinische Anwendungen von Nachtkerzenöl

Anwendungen in der ayurvedischen und chinesischen Medizin

Nachtkerzenöl gilt in der ayurvedischen Medizin, dem traditionellen Medizinsystem Indiens, als kühlend und nährend, was es bei entzündlichen Erkrankungen nützlich macht. Es wird bei Ekzemen, Allergien, Autoimmunerkrankungen und Immunschwächen eingesetzt.[23]

Sowohl die ayurvedische als auch die traditionelle chinesische Medizin erkennen den Wert von Nachtkerzenöl zur Regulierung des weiblichen Zyklus an, und in der chinesischen Medizin wird es verwendet, um das Blut zu bewegen und die Durchblutung zu verbessern.[24]  

Frauengesundheit

Nachtkerzenöl wird vor allem als Unterstützung für die Frauengesundheit gesucht, einschließlich Brustzysten und Schmerzen (auch Mastalgie genannt).[25] Es ist auch hilfreich bei PMS[26], Bluthochdruck in der Schwangerschaft, Erleichterung der Geburt[27] und zur Behandlung von Hitzewallungen in den Wechseljahren[28]Es besteht Bedarf an größeren Studien[29] um seinen Nutzen in der Behandlung zu bestätigen, aber die entzündungshemmende Wirkung der Nachtkerze unterstützt ihre traditionelle Anwendung bei diesen Erkrankungen.[30]

Ekzem

Seit den 1930er Jahren glauben Forscher, dass ein Mangel an essentiellen Fettsäuren (EFA) oder eine Störung des EFA-Stoffwechsels die Ursache von Ekzemen ist. Menschen mit Ekzemen haben viel Linolsäure, können diese aber möglicherweise nicht in entzündungshemmendes GLA umwandeln. Wenn das zutrifft, sollte es hilfreich sein, mit GLA-reichem Nachtkerzenöl zu ergänzen.[31]

Studien haben keinen konsistenten Nutzen gezeigt, aber es könnte eine Frage der richtigen Dosierung sein.[32] Es kann hilfreich sein, Nebenwirkungen von Isotretinoin, einem Akne-Medikament, zu behandeln.[33] Weitere Studien sind notwendig, um die Wirksamkeit zu bestimmen.

Herz-Kreislauf-Gesundheit

Es wurde festgestellt, dass Nachtkerzenöl bei Schmerzen und Funktionsverlust der Nerven im Zusammenhang mit diabetischer Neuropathie hilft. Die Ergebnisse erforderten eine hohe Dosis Öl über sechs Monate und wirkten besser bei Menschen mit gut eingestelltem Blutzucker.[34]

Nachtkerze kann auch hilfreich sein, um den Blutzucker bei Frauen mit Schwangerschaftsdiabetes zu regulieren. Weitere Studien sind erforderlich.[35] Da es die Durchblutung fördert, besteht Interesse an seiner Fähigkeit, die Symptome der Raynaud-Krankheit zu verbessern, aber auch hier sind weitere Studien nötig.  

Arthritis

Essentielle Fettsäuren wurden auf ihre Fähigkeit untersucht, Arthritisschmerzen zu lindern. Die Fette im Nachtkerzenöl erhöhen direkt die Menge an DGLA im Blut. DGLA ist eine stark entzündungshemmende Fettsäure, die Schmerzen reduzieren und die Gelenke schützen sollte.

Einige Studien sind vielversprechend, aber es sind weitere Belege erforderlich, bevor Nachtkerze als Erstlinientherapie bei rheumatoider Arthritis empfohlen werden kann.[36]  

Kosmetik

Nachtkerzenöl wird in kosmetischen Produkten wie Seifen und Lotionen verwendet. Es wird gut von der Haut aufgenommen und macht sie weich, indem es seine wohltuenden Öle abgibt. Äußerlich wird es oft zusammen mit einem Trägeröl verwendet, das die Stabilität der Nachtkerze verbessert.[37]  

Traditionelle Anwendungen

Die Ureinwohner Amerikas verwendeten die Blätter der Nachtkerze, um Umschläge zur Heilung von Blutergüssen und Hämorrhoiden herzustellen. Sie galt als Heilmittel bei Rheuma, Lähmungen und Gicht. Die ganze Pflanze, zubereitet als Tee oder Tinktur, wurde als Beruhigungsmittel bei Schlaflosigkeit, Unruhe und zur Beruhigung der Lunge bei Stauungen wie Bronchitis verwendet.[38]

Seine Verwendung bei Unruhe führte wahrscheinlich zu der modernen Annahme, dass es bei ADHS hilfreich ist, aber es gibt noch nicht genügend Forschung, die diese Wirkung belegt. Es wurde auch verwendet, um dem Körper bei der Erholung von den Auswirkungen von zu viel Alkohol zu helfen.[39]  

 

Fragen zu Nachtkerzenöl

Worauf sollte ich bei einem Nachtkerzenöl achten? Die meisten Nachtkerzenöle werden in Kapseln verkauft. GLA ist ziemlich instabil und wird schnell ranzig, daher sollten Sie Produkte wählen, denen ein Antioxidans wie Vitamin E zugesetzt wurde. Verwenden Sie Hersteller, denen Sie vertrauen können. Es gibt viele Fälle, in denen Nachtkerzenöl in Kapseln durch günstigere Soja- oder Safloröl ersetzt wurde.[40]  

Kann ich eine Allergie gegen Nachtkerzenöl haben? Allergien gegen Nachtkerze werden selten berichtet, sind aber möglich. Wenn Sie wissen, dass Sie eine Allergie gegen Nachtkerzenblüten oder GLA haben, verwenden Sie Nachtkerze nicht äußerlich oder innerlich. Fragen Sie Ihren Arzt nach einem Test auf eine Allergie gegen Nachtkerze oder andere Pflanzen der Familie der Onagraceae.  

Ist es sicher, Nachtkerzenöl bei Kindern zu verwenden? Nachtkerzenöl wurde untersucht und als sicher für Kinder befunden. Es ist kein häufiges Allergen, aber wenn Ihr Kind eine Allergie gegen Nachtkerze oder andere Pflanzen der Familie der Onagraceae hat, verwenden Sie Nachtkerzenöl nicht äußerlich oder innerlich als Nahrungsergänzung.

Kann ich mit Nachtkerzenöl kochen? Nachtkerzenöl sollte nicht zum Kochen verwendet werden. Es ist unter Hitze extrem instabil, aber die Pflanze ist essbar und nahrhaft. Junge Blätter können Salaten hinzugefügt werden, und die Wurzeln sind essbar. Ein Trägeröl wie Olivenöl könnte mit Nachtkerzenblüten angesetzt werden, um einige der Eigenschaften der Pflanze einzufangen. Das Öl könnte dann genauso verwendet werden wie Olivenöl.[41]  

Wie lange ist die Haltbarkeit von Nachtkerzenöl? Sehr kurz! Unter richtigen Lagerbedingungen hält Nachtkerzenöl nur etwa sechs Monate. Vitamin E wird dem Nachtkerzenöl zugesetzt, um es vor oxidativem Stress zu schützen, der entsteht, wenn das Öl zu verderben beginnt, und verlängert so seine Haltbarkeit. Nachtkerzenöle müssen gekühlt gelagert werden, und bei der Verwendung in Zubereitungen sollte es erst nach jedem Schritt, der Hitze beinhaltet, hinzugefügt werden.  

Verstopft Nachtkerzenöl nicht meine Poren? Nachtkerzenöl ist ein gutes Emolliens, das heißt, es ist gut darin, die Haut aufzulockern und zu erweichen. Dennoch können die Poren im Gesicht empfindlicher auf das Verstopfen durch dicke Öle reagieren. Wenn Sie zu fettiger Haut neigen, ist es besser, Nachtkerzenöl an anderen Körperstellen zu verwenden.  

Vorsicht und Überlegungen

Es gibt Hinweise darauf, dass Nachtkerze die Anfallstätigkeit erhöhen kann. Verwenden Sie keine Nachtkerze, Nachtkerzenöl oder Nachtkerzen-Ätherisches Öl, wenn Sie Epilepsie haben oder zu Anfällen jeglicher Art neigen.

Nachtkerze kann die Blutung verstärken, daher nicht verwenden, wenn Sie eine Blutungs- oder Gerinnungsstörung haben, blutverdünnende Medikamente einnehmen oder sich einer Operation unterziehen. Nachtkerzenöl kann Magenbeschwerden, Übelkeit, Durchfall, weichen Stuhl oder Kopfschmerzen verursachen.
