Trusted Health Products

Written By Kassandra Foreman / Reviewed By Ray Spotts

Zinc oxide is often used in skincare products to reduce itching, redness, inflammation, and even minor burns and irritations. This is a popular ingredient for products for all ages from diaper rash to chapped skin and burns.

It is included in many products and is generally safe for most people. Anyone will allergies to ingredients that are used in products with zinc oxide or with an allergy to this ingredient itself should stay away from these products.

It will not treat infections of any kind. If an infection develops it is important to see your family doctor.

Skin irritations treated with zinc oxide

For most uses this ingredient is applied the same way. A thin layer over the skin is all that is needed. It can be used for diaper cream, twice daily for skin irritations and as often as directed for minor burns.

It will often leave a white film that will not fully absorb into the skin, and may leave a mark on any clothing applied over it. This is not harmful because it maintains a barrier to keep it from drying out and to keep bacteria and dirt out.

As it is not water soluble it will maintain a barrier throughout the day and it will keep unwanted moisture and water off the skin.

Tissue damage repaired with zinc oxide

When taken in a supplement form it can benefit internal organs as well as the skin. It can also help the body to repair tissue damage to help the body remain healthy.

It can be found in some multivitamins and other supplements, but it shouldn’t be used if interaction is likely between the zinc oxide and other supplements, medications, or ingredients.

Hair care with zinc oxide

Zinc oxide can also help with dandruff and dry scalp. It helps maintain moisture and hydration while creating a barrier to keep the sun from drying out the skin and hair.

Sunscreen with zinc oxide

As it can block UV rays, zinc oxide also functions as a sunscreen and offers protection for the full body. A layer of zinc oxide across the skin protects deeper skin layers from the drying effects of the sun and other pollutants.

Zinc oxide has a wide range of uses but is most well known for its ability to block UV rays from the sun and other sources while protecting the skin. It creates a barrier that keeps moisture in and is antibacterial, and can help to heal dry skin and issues connected to dry skin, as well as protect hair.

While it can be used externally, it can also be used as a supplement to help the tissues in the body to repair themselves and maintain health inside and out.
