Vitamin E For Healthy Skin

There are several vitamins and minerals that are needed for health and to keep skin and hair healthy and happy. Vitamin E is one of these vitamins.

It has extra benefits for healthy skin and for undoing the damages that are caused by UV rays from the sun or indoor tanning, as well as minor wounds or burns. Its antioxidants counter the environmental damage and aging process.

There are two main ways to get vitamin E into the skin, either consuming supplements or through topical application.

Vitamin E Supplement

Vitamin E is necessary to support healthy skin. When taken as a supplement it is absorbed into the body and reaches the skin through the oil produced by the body and secreted onto the skin - meaning that people who have oily skin will have higher levels of vitamin E in their skin.

It helps to create a protective barrier keeping the moisture in as well as interrupting the UV rays and slowing the damage caused by the sun and other environmental sources. When applied topically - either alone or in skincare products - it creates the same type of barrier and will absorb into the skin.

Vitamin E And Skin Conditions

Vitamin E can help other moisturizers be absorbed easily into the skin. This makes it not only a great stand-alone addition to any skincare regime, but also as an additional ingredient to other products to increase their effectiveness and help them be absorbed and used more efficiently.

As vitamin E is easily absorbed it is recommended for dry or patchy skin, as well as skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis, as well as other skin conditions.

Vitamin E Antioxidants

In addition to vitamin E’s moisturizing abilities, it is full of antioxidants that help fight skin damage and help skin regenerate healthy skin cells to replace damaged ones. The antioxidants reduce damage to skin and help to lower rates of infection and even slow the signs of aging by increasing elasticity and the reparation of damaged cells.

Antioxidants also reduce the damage and fight off free radicals, which account for many of the signs of aging and skin damage.

Vitamin E And Inflammation

As an anti-inflammatory, vitamin E decreases inflammation and redness as well as the pain that often accompanies inflammation. This can lower pain in the joints, puffiness around the eyes, and help to improve skin conditions such as psoriasis.

Many skin conditions become red and inflamed, which causes itchiness and increased dry skin occurrences. By reducing that inflammation the discomfort, redness, rashes, and other skin damage can be reduced and even healed.

Vitamin E And The Immune System

Vitamin E is important for the immune system. It helps to stave off infections and inflammation, creating a healthy body, skin and hair, whether it is ingested or applied topically.

It can be used alone as an oil or as an ingredient in skincare products and supplements. Before taking supplements it is important to check for any possible interaction with medications, but it is generally safe to use either way and the benefits are seen quickly and are long-lasting.
