Many people use vitamin C to help maintain their health, stave off colds or flu, and as an immune system booster, but it also has more benefits. Vitamin C is also great when taking care of your skin.

Not only can it help increase collagen production in the skin, but it also helps to even out color, and heal minor wounds and damage. The antioxidant properties repair and diminish any damage caused by daily pollutants and sun exposure.

Collagen and vitamin C

When the skin reduces the production of collagen it allows for wrinkles to form and skin can begin to sag. Applying vitamin C to the skin once or twice a day as part of your skincare routine will provide the skin with the nutrients that it needs to increase the amount of collagen that is produced.

As skin ages it automatically produces less collagen, so by boosting those levels back up the aging process can be defied and skin can remain younger looking. Collagen not only helps to reduce wrinkles but also maintains skin elasticity to help it stay firm for a healthy appearance.

Natural Skin Tone and vitamin C

Another risk of skin aging is age or sun spots, when the skin is discoloured in small patches after being exposed to the sun and outside pollutants over time. When using vitamin C the skin is provided with the antioxidants and the nutrients it needs to repair the damaged cells that create sunspots.

It also interrupts melanin creation keeping the complexion even and clear. In this way it helps to maintain even color across the surface and keep the skin tone balanced and natural.

Nutrients and Vitamin C

When the skin is damaged by the rays of the sun it can not only create sunspots but can damage the cells and even create sunburn. These cells require extra vitamins and nutrients to heal or to regenerate healthy cells to replace the damaged ones as the fall away.

Vitamin C especially is key in this process and will not only help to speed the healing of sunburn but also other minor burns, cuts, scrapes, and small injuries. It can be applied directly to the wound and the skin will absorb and use this vitamin to heal.

Reduce skin Damage with vitamin C

Throughout the day our skin is exposed to many pollutants in the air and the UV from the sun. These things can dry out the skin, and cause minor damages, as well as remove the nutrients that the skin needs to remain healthy and even.

Using vitamin C to reduce these damages allows the skin to have some protection from the elements as well as assist the cells of the skin to heal after any damage has occurred.

While there is no cure-all for skin care, vitamin C can help many skin issues and concerns, from healing after a sun burn to boosting collagen in the fight against wrinkles and aging. It can be applied daily or twice daily as part of a regular skin care routine with little concern for side effects. It is recommended to begin with low doses for sensitive skin, but not necessarily avoided for any skin types.
