Some people rely on flu shots every year. Others prefer the natural route. There are several things you can do now to boost your immunity and protect yourself from colds and the flu.

Chlorella

It's hard to decide just what vitamins your body needs to stay healthy. For this reason, it's a great idea to rely on a supplement that protects in many ways. Chlorella is that kind of supplement.

Chlorella benefits include protection against damage from pollutants by providing antioxidants. It also has the ability to bind to toxins like heavy metals and escort them out of your body. Best of all, though, chlorella can help your own immune system fight off invaders in the form of viruses and germs

Taking chlorella daily is a great idea for general good health. Be sure to purchase the kind with a pulverized cell wall so you can absorb all of the benefits.

Kefir

Kefir is an ancient and mysterious concoction best made at home for potency and freshness. Kefir is what happens when milk has special grains added to it. The grains are not wheat of any kind, but a blend of sugars and proteins that look like cottage cheese.

In ancient times, kefir was made in a goatskin bag suspended from a doorway but it can easily be made on the kitchen counter in a jar. It benefits the digestive system but also strengthens the immune system. Some studies suggest that it can even combat cancer.

Green Tea

Tea, especially the green variety, has been consumed for centuries. It has the strange ability to help with both alertness and relaxation. Now, studies show that green tea also provides many health benefits. It can support the immune system as well as helping to suppress autoimmune diseases.

Green tea can also help prevent diabetes, heart disease and premature aging.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a flower that, when dried, can be made into a tea or powdered and added to a capsule. Over the centuries, it has had two primary uses as both a digestive aid and a treatment for insomnia. In addition to these and many other benefits, chamomile has been proven to fight the common cold virus and boost the immune system.

Kombucha

Kombucha is an unusual effervescent substance that can be made at home or purchased bottled at health stores and some supermarkets. It consists of sweetened tea that has been exposed to the kombucha SCOBY

The SCOBY is not for the faint of heart since it resembles a hockey puck made of flesh and is uncomfortable to look at or handle. SCOBY stands for symbiotic community of germs and yeast and has the ability to convert ordinary tea into a superfood.

Kombucha contains antioxidants and can actually kill germs. It strengthens the immune system and protects against such diseases as cancer and diabetes.

Stress Control

Many in the health community have a theory that there is really no disease that the human body and its immune system can't eliminate. However, when you are under stress, your immune system cannot function at its best and some illnesses and diseases may slip through undetected.

For this reason, it's important to keep stress levels under control. Prescription drugs are one way to accomplish this but they come with side effects. A better way is to get enough sleep and practice stress-relieving activities like meditation and yoga.

Exercise has also been shown to keep stress and anxiety at bay. Mild exercise like walking releases endorphins that provide feelings of peace and happiness. Best of all, walking doesn't require any fees and few expenses. The only thing that's really needed is a good pair of walking shoes.

During cold and flu season, try some natural ways to avoid becoming sick. Many are free or of low cost so you could actually try all of them. Taking control of your own health is a great thing.
