Getting minor cuts and injuries is very common. You can get them while chopping veggies or while cleaning the house. In fact, sometimes you don’t even know about a cut unless it stings due to salt or hand sanitizer. Don’t you agree?
Nevertheless, it is essential that you treat these cuts and burns as soon as possible. Otherwise, these might lead to infection or swelling and immense pain in the wound.
Fortunately, it is very easy to treat these injuries at home. Here’s how!
Create A First Aid Kit
First things first, you must create a first aid kit and store it properly for emergencies. Not having the required supplies in the kit can cause inconvenience. So, you need to ensure that your first aid kit has:
- Adhesive tape
- Alcohol wipes
- Allergy medicine
- Aloe vera gel
- Bandages in different sizes
- Dressing
- Lotion and cream
- Ointment for cuts and scrapes
- Saline wound wash
- Scissors
- Tweezers
Obviously, you can add more items to the kit, such as OTC medication or hand sanitizer. Also, as for the creams, bandages, and ointments, it is better to use products infused with natural ingredients.
For instance, ointments and creams that include manuka honey are proven to soothe burning skin. Likewise, it also helps create a moisturizing barrier that helps prevent infection.
How To Treat Minor Cuts?
Treating minor cuts is quite easy if you have all the required supplies at home. Here’s how you can do it!
- Wash your hands: Before you begin the treatment, wash or sanitize your hands properly. This will reduce the chances of germs getting into the cut.
- Treat bleeding: If there is bleeding, you need to stop the bleeding first. Gently put the pressure on the cut using a clean cloth or gauze pad. Keep the pressure for a few minutes till the bleeding stops.
- Clean the wound: Once the bleeding is stopped, rinse the cut under cool water. Or you can use a clean washcloth to clean the cut properly.
- Remove any dirt or debris: After that use tweezers to remove any dirt, grass, gravel, or anything stuck in the cut. Make sure that tweezers are clean and sanitized. Also, if you are afraid that the wound will get dirty or infected, you should cover it using a bandage. If not, you can simply use ointment and let the wound heal naturally.
How To Prevent Any Scars?
In very rare cases, a cut or wound can cause a scar. It generally depends upon injuries; nevertheless, you must learn to prevent them.
- Wear knee pads, helmets, and others to prevent injuries.
- Treat the injury immediately.
- Don’t pick at the scab.
- Keep the wound moist using the ointment.
- Cover your cuts.
If your scar is not fading, you must contact the doctor. It is also recommended in case you feel excessive irritation and redness.
